Mère + Me exists because becoming a mother is one of the most significant transformations of a woman's life, and too many women go through it alone. Most of what is on offer is built for the baby: sensory classes, soft play, stay-and-plays, rooms where nobody asks the mother how she is doing. Mère + Me asks that question first. We run baby-friendly events across Barnet, Enfield and London, including walks, brunches, reformer Pilates, workshops and coffee mornings, alongside a free WhatsApp community and The Mère Collective, a free network for mums building a business or finding their way back to work. Warm, non-clinical, and designed for the mother, not just the baby she brought with her.

The founder

Shakila Jerome founded Mère + Me in August 2025 after experiencing the isolation of early motherhood in North London, two hundred miles from her family, and reaching out twice to local mum communities without ever receiving a reply. She built the company while caring for her daughter full time with no childcare. Mère + Me is a King's Trust funded business and became a community interest company in 2026.

What we are working on

Our six week postnatal programme is a small-group course for mothers in early postpartum, combining gentle movement, guided conversation and practical support, run in warm, non-clinical spaces with babies welcome throughout. It is designed to carry a mother through the first months rather than offer her a single drop-in session.

Alongside it we run an access fund, so cost is never the reason a mother stays home. Funded places are held on our events and on the programme, requested quietly through our website, and never flagged to anyone else in the room.
